Did you know that the earliest recorded bird baths were found in Ancient Greece? It proves my point that we’ve been trying to entice wild birds into our yards for a very long time . Face it, even the nicest garden will benefit from a carefully located bird feeder and event quite a few deck perimeters are designed to accommodate bird house feeders. It wasn’t always like this but these days, building birdbaths and marketing birdfeeders is a huge business. But within what you’d think of as a tough corporate world there’s a wonderful company that found a way to convert unused farmland to a new purpose and what the ended up with was a line of bird house bird feeders like this Apple Shaped Bird House Birdfeeder. Among it’s many attractions is the simple fact that you don’t ever need to worry about going out in the middle of the winter and plowing through the snow with your bag of sunflower seeds. When the food is gone, this feeder turns into a charming little wooden bird house. Read the rest of this entry »

Thinking of replacing your water filter with a new one? Consider the Aquasana AQ-4000 filter. This filter is probably the best buy out there for a quality water filter at a reasonable price. Consider the cost is a very reasonable $99 dollars delivered to your home, I was impressed. The unit uses a twin cartridge system that works in two stages instead of the one like you get with a Britta or Pur system. The filtration abilities of the Aquasana system are much superior also, removing over 99% of most impurities. The filter is Consumer Digest “Best Buy” awarded many years in a row. Plus it carries the Underwriters Laboratories seal of approval. Read the rest of this entry »

This pretty sterling silver paw print charm is a symbol of affection for animals and is one I’m especially drawn to. How do I know this? Well, it’s just my idea, but whenever I see someone wearing an animal print on a piece of clothing or their jewelry it definitely gives me that impression. When I think of having waffles for breakfast, I usually picture the kind of waffles you find in the frozen food section of the grocery store. Square or round, they generally seem to lack taste, but we buy them anyway since they still offer a warm breakfast option and are a convenient choice on busy mornings. But to me these waffles really do not compare to the taste of delicious homemade waffles. Now it’s not something we have the time to do on weekday mornings, but it’s fun and easy to make homemade waffles on the weekends when you have a versatile Waffle Baker and Grill combo to bake them in. After browsing the incredible bridal shower favors on EyeCandyGift.com I have had so many ideas rush through my head about my upcoming wedding in July. My bridal shower will be in June, just a few short weeks before my wedding in my soon-to-be husband’s hometown of Vienna, Austria. Since my wedding is out of the United States, only my closest friends and relatives are coming. When I saw the beautifully packaged chrome luggage tags, I was taken aback. They are perfect gifts for my bridal shower guests, as they would be for anyone having a wedding outside of their usual residence.
What could be cuter and more meaningful that would commemorate my wedding abroad than these adorable little tags? They could either be used as place settings for each of my guests or perfectly suited as gift tags. I’ve decided to put them on my bags and I can’t wait to use them as the gift tags! Not only will they be a creative and beautiful way to secure the bags and display each recipient’s name, but they will be a lifetime symbol of my special day. It’s great to have these cute bridal shower favors to give as a gift that you can personalize and is still both practical and meaningful.

We have a great group of friends and usually get together at least once a month to play cards, have dinner and chat. We take turns hosting these little parties and usually keep the food pretty casual. This past week it was our turn and I wanted to do something a little different from the usual assortment of sandwiches and dips. At the same time, I didn’t want to spend most of the day and evening in the kitchen. My slow cooker came to the rescue. I found this great crockpot French Dip Roast recipe online and gave it a try. It turned out wonderful and made some of the best French dip sandwiches we ever had. Read the rest of this entry »

In the spring, flowering trees and shrubs can do more to lift your soul out of the winter doldrums and gently propel it back into the light than anything else I know. That’s just one of the reasons I love fruit bearing trees like the Flowering Sargent’s Crabapple bonsai tree. It begins the season smothered in white blossoms that will soon yield little green apples. The foliage colors in the fall to a rich mix of reds, yellows and orange, but not before you’ve been able to watch the crab apples ripen. Read the rest of this entry »

If you are really into golf, it’s sort of an addiction. It gets into your blood and clouds your better judgement. You start to think that if only you had the next new golf accessory or gadget, your game would be sure to improve.
Realistically we know that a new golf accessory won’t really improve our game but as Father’s day is near upon us, it’s nice to think about the possibility that we dads will get some great new gadget that will suddenly make our games rock. It probably won’t be a golf gps unit or that cool new putter we really want but just something simple like a golf divot repair tool or golf towel could make our day if not our game.

At least for now spring is in the air in the midwest. It feels good too. Now is the time to get the clubs cleaned and your mental game on. And in the spirit of everything old (winter) is new (spring) again, I have to say I was awed by Freddie Couples at the Arnold Palmer [Golf] Invitational.
Freddie made 4 birdies in his first 6 holes. Wow! He ended up 5 under for the round. And Freddie with his usual candor says “This doesn’t make me the guy to beat”. Really?
Life is good.
BTW, don’t let your game embarrass you - be sure you’re set with the best golf accessories for this year.

In an interesting bit of trivia, Tiger, the holder of all three WGC titles, passed Arnold Palmer for fourth place on the PGA Tour victory list.
